The Barking, Dagenham and Redbridge Eastern European Outreach Service, run by Refuge, provides confidential, non-judgmental support to Eastern European women and their children living in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and the London Borough of Redbridge who are experiencing domestic violence. This is a specialist outreach service staffed by multi-lingual expert practitioners, for Eastern European women and children.

It provides the following services, all under one roof as a ‘single point of access’:

  • One-to-one confidential, non-judgmental, independent support
  • Bilingual, culturally-specific one to one support
  • Group Support
  • Support to access safer accommodation

  • Eastern European Women who live in Barking, Dagenham and Redbridge

Everyone’s needs are unique and our expert staff at the service create support plans that help keep you (and your children) safe, whilst helping to rebuild your free from violence and fear. Refuge’s specialist Eastern European advocates can help a woman:

  • Understand her rights and feel empowered
  • Access safe accommodation
  • Navigate the criminal justice system
  • Access financial support and employment opportunities
  • Communicate safely with friends and family
  • Benefit from safe use of technology
  • Access support from other agencies, such as mental health services
  • Overcome language barriers
  • Keep herself and her children safe

Domestic violence is an abuse of power. It is systematic, patterned behaviour on the part of the abuser designed to control their partner and can include:

  • Physical abuse
  • Sexual abuse
  • Psychological abuse
  • Verbal abuse
  • Emotional abuse
  • Financial abuse
  • Technological abuse
