A woman unloads her grocery bags in a refuge

Emergency parcel – £10

The first step to rebuilding lives

Women often arrive at a refuge in shock, after having fled a violent assault. Some women may have lived with domestic violence for months or years. They may be isolated from family and friends. Sometimes women need to escape in an emergency and they arrive at our refuges with nothing but the clothes they, and their children, are wearing.

When women share their experiences with our staff, it is often the first time they have ever spoken about the domestic violence they have experienced. Many children who come to our refuges are so traumatised they can barely speak.

Our emergency parcel includes:

  • Emotional support and an initial assessment with our expert staff
  • Toiletries
  • Clothing
  • Food
  • Nappies or children’s clothes if needed

I have been welcomed with open arms. The refuge has been my home and it has changed my world. I have changed my outlook on life and being here has made me look at things positively. I can’t explain how grateful I am.
