Pet Abuse

Pets are often used as a way to coerce and control women and children; often the pets are injured too.   Gemma was terrified to leave her partner because she feared the abuse her pet dog Dusty would experience.

Dusty was hit with a shovel, forced to spend hours alone in the shed and also had his eye cut open as a result of the domestic violence perpetrated by Gemma’s ex.

Refuge works with other organisations to ensure pets and women are kept safe when they flee from violence.  No-one – person or pet – should ever have to experience abuse and fear.

Today show your support of women like Gemma and pets like Dusty.

Purchase one of our Safety and Independence Parcels for £50 to ensure all victims of domestic violence and abuse get to a place of safety.
