Thank you for joining the 30 days of Crochet fundraising challenge. Whether you are brand new to crochet, or have been doing it since you were young, we are delighted you are taking part and cannot wait to see what you create!

We want everyone taking part in this challenge to be safe doing so. Please follow coronavirus government guidance when taking part in this challenge. If you receive a notification to self-isolate, please adhere to this and do not participate outside of your home.

Below are some frequently asked questions about the challenges.

Signing up to the event

Q. I just signed up, now what?

A. Firstly, make sure you have joined the Facebook group. This group is a great place to get tips, be inspired and find out anything you want to know about the challenge! You can download your crochet fundraising pack here.

Q. How do I get a free t-shirt and fundraising pack?  

A. You can order your free t-shirt through this link. Please allow up to 10 working days for your t-shirt to arrive. You can download your crochet fundraising pack here.

Q. What are the t-shirt size measurements?

A. S 35/37″ M 38/40″ L 41/43″ XL 44/46″ 2XL 47/49″ 3XL 50/52″

Q.  Is it possible to buy more t-shirts?

A. You can purchase an extra t-shirt or t-shirt for your child through our supplier’s online web shop. Please note the price covers the cost of this t-shirt and does not go to Refuge.


Q. Do I have to fundraise to take part in the challenge?

A. Yes, this event is a fundraising challenge. Every pound you raise will help Refuge continue to support 7,000 women, children and men on any given day. Just £10 could provide a woman arriving at a refuge with the essentials she needs for her first night. Every pound helps!

Q. How do I set up a Facebook Fundraiser?

A. You can set up a Facebook fundraising page here. If you would rather fundraise through JustGiving, you can set up a page here.

Q. How do I get started with my fundraising?

A. Here are 3 tips for your fundraising:

  1. Make a personal donation to your page. This will show your friends and family that you are committed to the challenge and fundraising for Refuge
  2. Share your page around payday when people are feeling generous
  3. Make it fun – you could offer people a choice of songs you have to listen to whilst you crochet in exchange for a donation, or ask people what they would like you to create!

Q. How do I edit my fundraiser end date?

A. Go to your Facebook fundraising page, select Manage, Edit Fundraiser and change the end date of your event. We have videos of how to do this in the announcements section of the group. If your page has already ended, unfortunately you cannot reopen it. You will need to set up a new fundraising page and change the end date.

Q. How do I raise money?

A. Once you have set up your fundraising page, start sharing it on your social media channels. Make sure you add a picture to your fundraising page and explain why you are taking part in this event for Refuge. All the money raised on your page will go directly to Refuge so you do not have to worry about that.

Q. Can I fundraise outside of Facebook?

A. Yes, if you would prefer to use an alternative fundraising platform to Facebook, we recommend using JustGiving. Create your page here.

Q. Is there a fundraising target?

A. There is no set fundraising target for this challenge. We just ask that you raise as much as you can. You could aim for £52 which could provide a mother and her children a safe night’s stay in a refuge. Or increase your target to £185 which could help fund the running of the National Domestic Abuse Helpline for an hour, providing lifesaving information to women wishing to flee.

Q. Where does the money go when people donate to my fundraiser?

A. All funds donated to your fundraising page go to Refuge. The money raised from this event will help Refuge support 7,000 women, men and children on any given day. Domestic abuse should not be tolerated, and your fundraising will help Refuge provide specialist services and campaign for change.

Taking part in the challenges

Q. When can I start?

A. You can start your 30 days of crochet challenge whenever you like!

Q. What do I need to create?

A. You can crochet whatever you choose – this challenge is open to crafters of all abilities! We have a pattern for some bunting here.

Q. I don’t know how to crochet – where should I begin? 

A.YouTube is full of videos which provide the basic techniques for crochet. The Facebook group is also full of crochet tips and advice!

Q. What do I do when I have completed the challenge?

A. 30 days of crochet is no mean feat – you should be incredibly proud of yourself! Do be sure to share your photos on the Facebook group as we would love to see your creations. We also advise that you share your fundraising page one last time to try and get some last-minute donations.

Q. Do I need to provide evidence to the charity that I’ve done the challenge?

A. This is a self-recorded challenge, and you do not need to prove that you have done the challenge. It is a community coming together, not a competition. However, we would love to see your creation on our Facebook page!

Q. What if I don’t complete the challenge? 

A. The only thing that matters is that you challenge yourself.  The important thing is that you’re doing something that challenges you. This will vary from person to person, so tailor the challenge however you like. It should be tough, but doable. You should feel satisfied when you finish it! Just do as much as you can.
