The Lee Charity of William Hatcliffe The Lee Charity of William Hatcliffe was founded in 1622 for the benefit of the poor living in the Ancient Parish of Lee, which is now in the London Borough of Lewisham. The Lee Charity has supported Refuge in Lewisham since 2005, providing small grants for individual women and children in need. This support has been critical for women in our refuges with no recourse to public funds and has been used to fund essential women’s living costs, children’s clothes and baby provisions. Help from the Lee Charity has meant that women, who financially would have otherwise had no choice but to return to their violent partner, have remained safe in the refuge with their children and have since resettled in the community. Refuge are very grateful for the Lee Charity’s support. |
