The Henry Smith Charity The Henry Smith charity was founded in 1628 with the objective of relieving, and where possible, releasing people from need and suffering. These objects continue in the grant making policy today. The Henry Smith charity has supported Refuge since 1984. It has seen Refuge grow and develop from a small charity, pioneering the world's first refuge in Chiswick, to become the country's leading provider of emergency accommodation and support services for women and children experiencing domestic violence. Since 1984, the charity has provided Refuge with over £500,000 in grants towards a variety of projects, including the refurbishment of our Chiswick refuge, core costs, children's services and volunteering. Refuge is indebted to the Trustees of the Henry Smith Charity for their continued generosity and belief in our work.
