Help stop domestic violence in the homeIn partnership with The Body Shop This was the biggest ever domestic violence campaign launched between a charity and a business. It heightened awareness of an issue that affects one in four women in their lifetime, killing two women a week in England and Wales. It also raised funds for Refuge which enabled us to provide this website. The campaign encouraged The Body Shop customers to recycle their mobile phones in-store. Each phone raised £2.75 for Refuge. The Body Shop also sold badges to raise funds. The Sun newspaper ran an awareness-raising campaign alongside, with extended coverage in September 2003 and January 2004. Dame Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop said: "One in four women is abused in her lifetime and two women die every week at the hands of current and ex-boyfriends or husbands. I find these statistics absolutely devastating - they should compel everyone to sit up, listen and help stop violence in the home." The central message:Don't ignore domestic violence. It is a crime and has to stop. Everyone has a part to play to stop the crime. You can make a difference by raising funds for Refuge. |
