 How can I help Refuge? Refuge depends on donations to provide its services for abused women and children. If you are able to make a donation of any kind, please visit our fundraising area on this website. There are many ways of donating or raising funds for Refuge, and you will be a making a real difference to the lives of the women and children who depend on us.
If you are unable to make a donation but would like to give your time instead, there are opportunities to volunteer on the 24-hour National Domestic Violence Freephone Helpline. We also have a small number of volunteers who help us out in our fundraising department at our head office in London.

 How can I make a donation to Refuge? There are several ways that you can make a donation to Refuge. You can support us online by making a donation now or by regular direct debit payment. You can also download a postal donation form to complete and send back or you can make a telephone donation by calling 020 7395 7772.

 How can I view this site discreetly? If you are at all concerned about viewing this site and its contents, you can view this site in a discreet format. This means that any reference to Refuge is removed as are all images. Page titles are reduced making it more difficult for others to observe what you are viewing.
To view the site discreetly you can either click on the pink “View this site discreetly" button on the home page or you can click the same option at the bottom of the menu.

 How do I know it is safe to donate online? We use a secure server when people make donations online. This ensures their transactions are private and protected. We also take appropriate measures to ensure that the information disclosed to us is kept secure, accurate, and up to date.  I don't want others to know I have visited this site Your safety is the most important thing. If you do not want anyone to know that you have visited the Refuge website please follow the steps below. It sets out the steps you need to take to increase your safety when using the internet.
When you have finished viewing the Refuge site take these steps to keep others from knowing you have visited this site.
Internet Explorer 5/5.5/6 (PC):
Remove Refuge files from your computer's history:
1. On your keyboard press Ctrl-H together
2. The history of the websites that have been viewed will show in the browser window
3. Locate the Refuge folder. Right click on the folder and choose delete
4. If an alert box shows, choose “yes" to delete the files completely
5. Press Ctrl-H to close the browser history file
Remove Refuge files from your computer's cache:
1. Pull down the Tools menu in the browser window
2. Select > Internet Options
3. In the dialogue box click on the button “Delete files"
4. In the alert box select “Ok" and then “Ok" again

 The website font size is too small, how do I increase it? PC - Netscape Navigator:
Go to View in your browser and select Increase Font from the drop down menu.
PC - Internet Explorer:
Go to View in your browser, then click Text Size and select the size you require from the drop down list.
Mac - Internet Explorer and Netscape v.7:
Go to the View menu and select Text Zoom. You can increase or decrease your font size by clicking on 'Larger' and 'Smaller' or by using the percentage range given.
Mac - Netscape v.4:
Go to the Edit menu. Select Preferences, then Appearance then Fonts. Here you can use the drop-down menus to set your font size.

 What is a PDF file? Many of the documents available for download on this site are in PDF format. This enables you to maintain printed documents in a computerised form, without the font, images, graphics, and layout being affected. PDF files can be viewed using Adobe's Acrobat Reader. You can download the Acrobat Reader software here free of charge.
