For men

Below are the answers to the most commonly asked questions.

I am an abuser - what can I do to change?
It takes courage to admit that your behaviour is wrong and unacceptable. The good news is that you can change, as long as you really want to. First you must accept that the abuse is your fault and take responsibility for your actions. Second, only when you understand why you have a need to control your partner, can you start to learn how to treat your her with respect.

You may not be able to do this on your own. You may need professional support. Start by reading our pages for men. Then get in touch with a men's group such as Respect which runs national perpetrator programmes.

It's not only women - I'm being abused.
Yes, men are abused too and we know how hard it can be to seek help. You may be worried that no-one will believe you or perhaps that you will be thought of as 'less' of a man. Speaking out about your experiences is difficult but it is the most important step towards a life without abuse.

Remember, assaulting someone is a crime and you do not have to deal with it on your own.

Have a look at our previous area for men for more information.
