Walk4 4 Julian Nieman

On Sunday 11 September, actor Helena Bonham Carter CBE will join Refuge at its annual event to Walk4 a world without domestic violence. She will stand shoulder to shoulder with domestic violence survivors and hundreds of Refuge supporters.

The Walk4 route will cover 10km including four of London’s most iconic bridges, in poignant recognition of the one in four women who experience domestic abuse at some time in their lives.

Helena Bonham Carter CBE says: “I have known Sandra Horley, a friend of my family, for over thirty three years. I have watched her grow Refuge from a single house in Chiswick to a national charity that helps 3,800 women and children escaping violence and abuse on any given day. I am proud to be walking side by side with survivors and families who have lost loved ones to domestic violence. Today I will Walk4 Refuge to call for a world where violence against women and children is no longer tolerated.”

Sandra Horley CBE, chief executive of Refuge, says: “Refuge is delighted that Helena Bonham Carter is showing her support for Walk4. We live in a world where domestic violence lurks in the shadows, hidden away and excused. But not today. Today we are shining a light on an issue which affects one in four women at some time in their lives. Thousands of women are experiencing domestic violence and we want women across the country to hear about this walk and reach out and access support. I have no doubt that Helena’s wonderful support will help us reach isolated and abused women.”

There will be a photocall with Helena Bonham Carter and survivors of domestic violence, and families who have lost loved ones to domestic violence.
