#16days #16ways to support women and children

As part of 2014’s 16 Days of Action to End Gender-Based Violence, Refuge has been posting each day on its social media platforms ways in which the public can help to support women and children experiencing domestic violence.

Although this global period of activism is coming to a close, domestic violence is a year-round problem which requires a year-round response. Check out the following #16Ways you can continue to help us in our vital work – and give hope to the 3,000 women and children we support every day:

1) For just £10, support women fleeing domestic violence this Christmas with a Refuge Emergency parcel.

2) Learn the truth about domestic violence, and help to challenge myths and misinformation whenever you can.

3) Join us at our star-studded comedy gala, ‘Raise a Laugh for Refuge’, organised together with Benefit Cosmetics. Featuring Bridget Christie, Lucy Porter, Ellie Taylor and more!

4) Visit our 1in4women website, and learn how to support a friend experiencing domestic violence.

5) Ensure those children waking up in our refuges this Christmas have a gift to open – give a gift via our Gift List.

6) Help bring abusers to justice with Refuge’s law parcel.  These parcels contain vital legal and emotional support for women entering the justice system.

7) Stand with Refuge, and the families of those women and children who have been tragically killed because of domestic violence. Demand a public inquiry into the police and state response to domestic violence.

8) Help those women staying with us to get back on their feet with a safety and independence parcel.

9) Bring a little festive joy to those in need by supporting our Christmas appeal.

10) Nominate Refuge as your company’s chosen charity!

11) Buy your gifts through Give As You Live, and retailers will donate to Refuge every time you spend.

12) Sign the End Violence Against Women Coalition’s petition to make sex and relationships education in schools compulsory, and to ensure the inclusion of  sexual consent, healthy and respectful relationships and gender stereotypes into the curriculum.

13) Train with Refuge today and improve your practice when supporting survivors of domestic violence.

14) Run the Virgin London Marathon for Refuge! Spaces are limited so sign up today and help us raise funds for our vital services.

15) Organise your own event, like a bake sale! Click here for some great ideas.

16) Make someone smile – buy a £25 Refuge parcel of arts, crafts and care for children in our refuges.
